Hello everyone and happy Wednesday. I know I usually talk football stuff here, but I wanted to switch gears a little bit and talk about the NBA. I think the big thing that caught my attention probably caught a few other people’s as well.
That thing would be James Harden. This past week, he gave an interview which basically said that Giannis Antetokounmpo had no skill. That he was seven feet tall and just ran and dunked. He said he had to learn to play basketball with skill.
This all started because during the All Star draft, Giannis made a joke about Harden not passing. He laughed, LeBron laughed, the hosts laughed, etc… Point being, it was a humorous comment. Harden took it to heart, pointing out that he has more assists than the guy Giannis drafted. He also has a penchant for dribbling for ten seconds and firing up threes, but I digress.
What really made me angry was the comment about a lack of skill. If you play in the NBA, you have skill. Period. I don’t care if you’re seven feet or not, you have to have skill to compete at that level. It also upsets me because Giannis is one of the hardest working players in the game. He tries to correct the weaknesses in his game. He worked on his jumpshot before this season because it was a weakness last year. He works on his free throws. He’s gone from a 180 pound kid to the guy he is now because he was determined to. Comments like Harden’s are ill advised and just wrong. I like trash talking on the court, but this isn’t on the court. This is an interview where he called out a guy that has been more efficient and effective than himself. James better learn to play defense if he’s calling out guys that can.
Now, I will admit that I am from Wisconsin and I like Giannis a lot. He seems humble and always talks about just helping the team win. He seems like a guy who puts his team first, and I can tell you it’s been awesome watching him grow into the player he is. So, James, keep talking that trash. The Greek Freak will use it as fuel and continue to dominate on a level you can only hope to reach. I’ll talk to you guys next week.
