Alright everyone, time to strap in for…….another movie review. What can I say? I enjoy watching movies and letting people know my opinions. Today, I want to talk about my favorite Western: Unforgiven
Unforgiven tells the story of a man that is haunted by the sins of his past. He has spent the years after he gets married trying to live a decent life, and continues to hold to that lifestyle even after she passes. But after being down on his luck for too long, one more opportunity comes up to make him pick up his guns.
This one stars Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, and Richard Harris in what may be their finest performances. Eastwood is fantastic as the reluctant hero, while Freeman provides the perfect sidekick. Hackman is a scene stealer as the cruel sheriff trying to keep order by any means necessary. Harris doesn’t have as big a part as the main three, but comes across as delightful in his limited screen time. It is the perfect cast to carry out Eastwood’s vision, who also serves as the director. And that doesn’t account for the other strong performances in the film, particularly Anna Thomson, whose Delilah kicks off all the action.
I do not believe this is necessarily the greatest western, but it is my absolute favorite. The characters resonate long after the movie is over, and the climax of the film is my favorite showdown ever. I would give it two thumbs up, five stars, 10 out of 10, whatever the highest rating is. A lot of others did too, as the film won multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture. If you haven’t seen it, check it out. You definitely won’t regret it if you like westerns. And, check it out again if you have seen. Until next time.
