May The 4th Be With You

Hello everyone and happy May 4th. As you know today is a celebration of everything Star Wars, and the EYF blog will be no different. Star Wars means different things to everyone, and I would suppose that is true for me. In that spirit, I wanted to list my top five Star Wars quotes and why they are my favorite. Maybe mine will match some of yours.

5. “You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them. bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness.”- Obi Wan Kenobi

Revenge of the Sith, and the prequels, catch a lot of grief for the dialogue. But not this one. This one does a perfect job of showing us the pain Obi Wan is in, and also sets the stage for the events and viewpoints of the original trilogy.

4. “I am a Jedi, like my father before me.”- Luke Skywalker

The culmination of the original trilogy, this line was the final straw for Palpatine. Rather than risk being toppled, he decides to destroy Luke. His decision paves the way for Vader’s redemptive act.

3. “The force is with you young Skywalker, but you are not a Jedi yet.”- Darth Vader

The menace and disdain in Vader’s voice as he addresses Luke is unforgettable. The audience knows it’s a trap, and I was honestly worried Luke would fall into it. He did.

2. “No. I am your father.” – Darth Vader

For my money, the greatest twist in film history. This reveal changed the Star Wars saga and made Vader into something more. Until then, he’d just been the mechanical bad guy responsible for dispensing pain on our heroes. With this line, he becomes an intriguing character audiences need to know more about.

1. “May the Force be with you.”- Multiple

A line that inspired an entire day, this one tops the list because of it’s relevance over the course of the entire saga. When Han Solo speaks about the force, you know it’s a good line.

I hope you enjoyed the list and that you can relate to some of the lines. I know there are obviously more lines, but that’s the thing about Star Wars. The scope of it is huge. That’s why we’re celebrating today. Thanks for reading, and I’ll talk to you again soon.
