The final installment of the classic trilogy opens with the most feared Sith Lord in the entire galaxy arriving on the 2nd Death Star with some disturbing news for Moff Jerjerrod. The Moff is filled with terror when Lord Vader informs him that The Emperor is less than pleased with the lack of progress towards the completion of the ultimate weapon. The galactic empire has the clear upper hand as this movie gets rolling.

Luke Skywalker is forced to return to his home planet of Tatooine to rescue his old buddy, Han Solo,  from the Clutches of Jabba The Hut. I just can’t get enough of this entire sequence. The dancing is great fun and I love how Chewie gets Han all caught up on the fact that Luke has become a Jedi. Lukes escape from the Rancor is impressive, however, rescuing himself and Han from being dropped into Sarlacc’s mouth shows the complete range of his Jedi skills. Carrie Fischer does a great job of portraying how repulsed Jabba makes Princess Leia feel. I always find myself cheering on the inside as she strangles him to death.

Luke keeps his promise by returning to Dagobah in order to complete his Jedi training. However, Yoda has fallen ill and informs Luke that no more training is needed. But before he passes on, Yoda confirms the news for Luke that Darth Vader is his father. Young Skywalker expresses his frustrations with Obi-Wan’s Force ghost as he questions why the news was kept from him.

Han Solo, Princess Leia, and the rest of the rebel alliance are used as pawns by Emperor Palpatine in his attempt to convert Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side of The Force. Palpatine reveals his ruse to draw the alliance into a trap and encourages Luke to watch his friends perish. After his friends are seemingly done for, Luke is overcome with anger and attempts to oblige Palpatine’s request. But Darth Vader forces a final showdown with his son as Luke must decide where his loyalties lie.

Return of the Jedi is the perfect way to finish off the Classic Trilogy. Han Solo and Princess Leia are reminded of their feelings for one another after Luke rescues them from the clutches of Jabba. Luke’s loyalty towards his friends is on full display as he proves that one can become a Jedi despite seeking out and helping his loved ones. The younger Skywalker nearly gives in to his temptations, but ultimately proves that blood is thicker than water during the conclusion of this film. The father-son dynamic makes Luke’s success seem impossible and I find it quite ironic that trusting Darth Vader is what ultimately saves him from making a full crossover to The Dark Side. Return of the Jedi is loaded with fun and is a must watch for all Star Wars Fans.
