Not that long ago, in a galaxy that resides inside his head…
An Angry Star Wars Fan Theory…
What if Anakin Skywalker could’ve seen the future as a nine-year-old boy?
What if Qui Gon Jinn were to hear the young boy screaming for help after one of his nightmares woke him up?
What if Anakin revealed the true motives of the Jedi before Qui Gon was ruthlessly murdered at the hands of Darth Maul?
What if Qui Gon Jinn had been given the privilege of training The Chosen One?
Part 1: Bad Dreams
“Anakin… what is it?” Qui Gon questioned after hearing the boy’s cries for help. Anakin had been having terrible nightmares for several weeks. Qui Gon feared this was a significant reason the council objected to his training.
“Master! “You’re alive! Thank goodness…”
Qui Gon could see the sheer terror on Anakin’s face. “Of course I’m alive, Anakin. What is it?”
“It… it seemed so real… I… it… it’s Master Obi-Wan… I had a terrible dream.”
“What about Obi-Wan?” Qui Gon grew more concerned with each comment Anakin’s made.”
“It’s …its probably nothing.” The look of terror subsided, but there was still a tremendous fear within the boy’s voice.
Qui Gon grabbed Anakin by the shoulders and looked him directly in the eyes. “You must never ignore your dreams, especially if you are to become my padawan. You have much to learn. I can only help you if you’re truthful with me. Anakin, you are the chosen one. I’m positive of that. The Force often gives us a glimpse into the future, and while your visions may not come true, you must tell me. Always.”
“But…if I am the Chosen One like you say… why do they doubt me?”
“Who doubts you?” Qui Gon was well aware of how much the council’s members doubted Anakin, but he wanted to hear Anakin’s explanation.
“Master Yoda. Master Windu… Why do they make me feel bad? Why is it a problem if I miss my mother?” A discouraged and confused Anakin gazed at the ground for a few moments in disbelief. “Maybe I’m just not supposed to be a Jedi.”
Qui Gon patiently waited for the boy to collect himself as he reflected on a private conversation he’d had with Master Yoda. A conversation that took place just after Qui Gon sought the council’s approval to train the boy.
“Clouded, the boy’s future is,” Yoda explained. “Too much fear, the boy has. A girl, he desires. His mother, he misses… Too old, the boy is to begin training. A path to the dark side is a distinct possibility”.
“With all due respect, master, I don’t see the problem,” Qui Gon was frustrated with Yoda’s assumptions. “It’s perfectly natural for the boy to miss his mother. And as far as the crush your referring to, Queen Amidala is a beautiful young lady. It’s also perfectly natural for a boy of his age to become infatuated with an older girl. That’s precisely why I wish to train him, Master. I can help him learn how to control his emotions. I can help him avoid the dark side.”
“If so positive you are, then a request to the council, I will make. But, Warn you, I must. Pain, suffering, temptation are all things the boy must overcome. Great caution, I urge you to proceed with.”
“Thank you, master.” Qui Gon deliberately approached Yoda to discuss the boy’s training further because he sensed doubt within Master Windu. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but there was tension between Mace Windu and the boy.
Qui Gon Jinn returned to the present moment. He could sense the boy was deeply troubled by this dream. “That’s nonsense, Anny. You’re going to become a great Jedi. But you have to trust me. Go on, finish telling me about your dream.”
Anakin recalled the last moments he’d had with his mother. He remembered her telling him to be brave and not to look back. “Well, Obi-Wan… was fighting the scary guy that attacked you when we were leaving Tatooine…” Tears filled the boy’s eyes as he did his best to explain the nightmare he’d just had. “You were there, fighting by his side… an… and then.” Anakin paused, .and did his best to fight off the tears.
“Then, what,” Qui Gon encouraged.
“Then, Obi-Wan completely bailed on you. He left you to fight alone. The hooded man had this sword with lasers on both sides of the handle.” Anakin paused to shed a few tears. “Master Kenobi stood by and watched him kill you.” Anakin began sobbing uncontrollably.
“There, there, now Anakin. It was just a dream. You know Obi-Wan would never let that happen, don’t you?”
Qui Gon’s question struck a nerve within Anakin.
“There’s more. Lots more.”
“Well, it’s Padme.”
Qui Gon jumped in, “Anakin, I warned you about her. You must not confuse your feelings. If you are to become a Jedi…”
Anakin interrupted before Qui Gon had a chance to finish. “Do you wanna hear about my dream or not? You asked.”
“I’m sorry, Anakin. You’re right. Please, continue.”
“Ok, so I know it’s wrong for a Jedi to have a girlfriend. That’s why my dreams make me cry. I keep seeing bad things happen to the Jedi. Like, after you get killed by the guy with the red face, Obi-Wan trains me.” Anakin pauses for a few moments more as he sobbed.
Qui Gon finds Anakin’s dreams troubling as he has also sensed a considerable amount of confusion revolving around Obi-Wan. He always tried telling Obi-Wan that he shouldn’t seek a spot on the Jedi Council, but he feared his words had fallen on deaf ears. Qui Gon foresaw Obi-Wan becoming a Jedi Master and Council member, but everything else in young Kenobi’s future was unclear.
When composed, Anakin continued, “Obi-Wan trains me, but I grow up confused about everything.”
“What do you mean, Anakin? Confused about everything…”
“Well, I know you said that Jedi aren’t supposed to want a wife. But I love Padme. I can’t help it. In my dreams, I ask Obi-Wan to help me save my mother, and all he ever tells me is to forget about her and ignore how I feel about her. You just can’t let this happen, Master Qui-Gon.”
“What else, Anakin. Tell me everything about your dream, and I’ll do my best to stop interrupting you.”
“Ok. So, my mother ends up getting killed by the sand people. I go and try to save her, but it’s too late. I get real mad and end up killing all the sand people with my laser sword. Then, I fall in love with Padme, but Obi-Wan loves her too.”
Qui Gon finds this ironic as he’s also sensed the attraction Obi-Wan has for Padme. He specifically remembered telling the young Kenobi that it was forbidden for a Jedi Knight to take a wife.
Anakin continued, “So, Padme tells me she’s pregnant, but then she says that we can’t get married because she’s on the Senate. I don’t know why, but in my dreams, Obi-Wan is trying to convince Padme that I’ve fallen to the dark side… What’s the dark side?”
“The Force is very powerful Anakin; A good Jedi uses it for guidance. But some try and manipulate The Force and use it for their own personal benefit. Those who do are called Sith, and they practice and train to use the dark side of The Force. I’ll explain more about it later. Please, tell me about the rest of your dream.”
“Ok, so Obi-Wan keeps telling Padme that I’ve fallen to the dark side, and there’s no hope for me. She doesn’t believe him. The next thing I know, I’m talking to Padme on this planet where there’s a lot of lava. Obi-Wan shows up and starts yelling for me to leave her alone…” Anakin pauses again as he’s become upset and sobs some more.
“There, there now, Anakin,” Qui Gon wrapped his arms around the boy, and they embraced. “It’s just a dream, son. It’s not real. Obi-Wan will never let me be killed.”
“It feels so real, Master. Do you want to hear the rest? I haven’t gotten to the worst part yet.”
“There’s more?” Qui Gon was left to wonder what could be worse than his own death.
“Oh yeah, Like Master Windu lets me be on the council but for some reason says I can’t be a Jedi Master. I just figure that’s because I end up getting married to Padme. She sure is pretty.”
“Anakin, please continue.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, Master. I end up doing a terrible thing, and then a terrible thing happens to me. Please don’t let it happen, master Qui Gon!”
“Don’t let what happen? You must tell me!”
“Don’t let me kill Master Windu.” Anakin loses control again and cries for several moments. “And don’t let Master Kenobi attack me.”
Qui Gon had doubted his feelings up to this point, but hearing the boy explain these dreams confirmed his doubts. The Jedi didn’t believe Anakin was The Chosen One. He’d already sensed that Mace Windu thought the prophecy was bogus -just a legend passed on from the generations to instill hope and pass the time. “Please settle down now, Anny. It’s just a dream, as I said before. I’m not going to leave you.”
“But it seemed so real, Master. Especially the part.” Anakin paused as if he didn’t want to say what came next in his dream. He made Qui-Gon kneel beside him so he could whisper the next part into his ear. “Especially when master Kenobi attacks me from behind. I’m talking to Padme, and he starts attacking me. I can’t explain it all, but at the end of it, he cuts off my arms and legs kicks me into the lava… and… and the worst part is the lava burns me in a bad place. It pretty much burns my penis off! Can you believe that! I have to live the rest of my life without a penis! I don’t think I could handle that. Please don’t let it happen, Master Qui Gon.”
Qui Gon was more than appalled as Anakin whispered into his ear. He decided to leave the Jedi order and train Anakin on his own. He knew the Jedi had become much too involved with politics to use proper judgment. He and Anakin would become -Rogue Warriors!!
