A Fantastic Reimagining

Hello everyone and welcome to Monday Star Wars Talk. Today, I would like to discuss something I came across a few years ago. It was a very well done reimagining of the very first lightsaber duel ever seen on screen.

The scene, called Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined, does so much justice to the combatants. Not limited by the production budgets of the 70’s, the reimagining shows Vader and Obi Wan more in line with how powerful they are. Vader is the aggressor, savagely attacking his old master and hungry for revenge. Obi Wan is likewise savvy, utilizing his experience to avoid Vader’s force based attacks and his knowledge of combat to keep himself alive. The callbacks to their former duel adds a layer to the story not present in the original. If you have not seen it, the video is available on YouTube.

The reason I like this is because we get to see these characters at their full power. The original duel was between an actor bogged down by a massive suit and an aged stage veteran. They didn’t have CGI to help them along like they do today. In reality, we know Vader and Obi Wan are great warriors, capable of fighting at a level other people in the galaxy are not. After all, Vader is the greatest Jedi hunter of all time and he refers to Obi Wan as the greatest Jedi of all time in the novel. This makes their original duel in context seem lackluster. That’s why this video was nice.

I really respect the creators of this video to show us an update like this and keep the aesthetic of the original. I say bravo. Let me know what you think, and I’ll talk to you next week.
