Hello everyone and welcome to the Pack Pick. This will be a new weekly column running through the season where I will analyze the upcoming matchup for the Green Bay Packers. The opponent this week is the Houston Texans.
To say the Texans have underachieved would be an understatement. The team started the year terribly and fired their head coach. The strategy seems to be let’s see what DeShaun Watson can do and hope it enough. The defense has regressed to a degree where it is unrecognizable, even with future Hall of Famer JJ Watt. They carry a 1-5 record into the game.
The Packers got destroyed last week, so I think they will want to make a statement. I believe Watson is the best quarterback the Packers have played this year, but I don’t think the scheme or his coaches will help him. I expect the Packers to establish what they want to do early, and then ride those good vibes to a win. I think Aaron Jones will have a great game, as Houston has given up over 1,000 yards rushing so far in six games. With Jones getting into a groove, I think Aaron Rodgers will benefit from having the pressure off of him. Green Bay will get out to a lead, and the defense will be able to pin their ear backs and keep the Texans at bay. I got the Packers winning rather comfortably 34-17.
On the other side of this, I almost wish the Texans would provide a stiffer test for Green Bay. I honestly think the team needs to be tested to redeem themselves after last week, but I doubt Houston is the team to do it. Either way, I’ll take the W and then move on to next week.
Those are my two cents for this week. Let me know what you think and I’ll talk to you all next week.
