Hello everyone and welcome to the Pack Pick. As the season moves forward, let’s take a look at the next team on the Packers’ schedule, the Indianapolis Colts.
The Packers come into this game at 7-2 after a very lackluster performance against Jacksonville. They seemed to lack energy and focus, which is concerning. This is the time of the year when I start looking not at just whether the Packers win or lose, but how they play as well. Hopefully, the Jacksonville game was an aberration, but time will tell.
Indianapolis, on the other hand, is coming off one of their more impressive victories of the season. They’ve taken control of their division, and they will be playing at home. They’re also playing on ten days rest, so they should be ready to go after their mini bye week.
As a Packers fan, I worry about this game. It’s entirely possible that Green Bay rises to the level of competition they’re about to play, which would result in a good team win. As it is, however, Indianapolis is a bad matchup. They play tough defense, and Frank Reich has no problem running the ball down an opponent’s throat. Green Bay’s run defense is holding them back this year, and that will come into play here. Also, Phillip Rivers carved up a superior version of this defense last year when he played Green Bay as a member of the Chargers. Although Rivers isn’t the most careful quarterback with the football, Green Bay hasn’t been very prolific at taking the ball away either. Plus, if the Packers injured cornerbacks don’t return, it’s a tall order to ask them to shut down a diverse Indy offense.
I think this game comes down Indy’s defense versus Green Bay’s offense. The Packers have struggled to establish the run and put drives together as of late, relying far too much on needing a big play. Neither team is desperate for a win, but the Colts need this game more than the Packers need it. That will be the deciding factor.
The Pick: Indianapolis 31 Green Bay 27
*I realize I have been pretty wrong with my picks as of late. I boast only a 2-2 record picking Green Bay on the year. So I’ll probably get this one wrong, though I will say I have no problem with that. Go Pack Go!!!
